Rangers transfer news as Ibrox board acknowledge need for new players again

The Rangers board have already admitted that Phillipe Clement will require more new players in upcoming transfer windows, according to Chris Jack.

Writing for the Rangers Review (16 October) Jack shared that the Ibrox board have already accepted that they will need to provide their new manager with further funds to dip into the transfer market, only weeks after they backed Michael Beale to the tune of £13million.

Beale bought nine players to Glasgow this summer and was similarly active in the January window, with a number of his signings failing to get up to speed with proceedings in the early parts of the season. However, Clement will need further resources to be able to build a team to his style and image.

Funds will be made available where possible for the Belgian to add to his squad, while the Rangers will continue to be run in a financially sustainable manner, but both the board and investors have accepted that more players will have to be added to the ranks.

Sensible

The issue with Beale’s recruitment over the summer at Ibrox was the fact that the huge turnover of players left the then-Rangers manager with a slightly random mash-up of players that didn’t seem to fit a specific style or identity of play.

Clement has to ensure that the players that he brings to Glasgow will definitely be the right fit for his squad as it is unlikely that the Belgian will be able to afford the same levels of investment that Beale was last summer, especially in the January window.

Rangers

There are plenty of talented players already in the ranks at Ibrox and the likes of Todd Cantwell and Abdallah Sima have shown in glimpses this season that they can be very good players, while the older heads of James Tavernier and Connor Goldson are valuable members of the squad.

For Clement, it should be about fine-tuning what he already has at his disposal before sprinkling in a few additional pieces of talent into the squad when January rolls around. Then maybe in the summer he can spend a little bit more and overhaul the squad if required, should he be able to move some of the dead wood out of Ibrox.

It will be interesting to see how Rangers approach the next few transfer windows after their spending this summer has backfired so drastically.

In other Rangers news, Clement has been spotted arriving for his first day of training with the Light Blues
