Jo Potter pleased with ‘comprehensive’ Rangers Women performance in win v Hibernian

Jo Potter was pleased with the “comprehensive” display from her Rangers Women’s side as they ran out 7-0 winners over Hibernian on Sunday, 15 October.

The Light Blues put on a show in their first match at Ibrox this season and ran riot after breaking the deadlock after 30 minutes, with Kirsty Howat scoring four times as Potter’s side kept the pace with league leaders Celtic at the top of the table.

Rangers were hoping to put on a show in front of the big Ibrox crowd and they did exactly that, but what earned the most praise from the Light Blues manager was the performance of her side defensively to keep yet another important clean sheet.

As quoted by Rangers on Sunday (15 October) she said: “I think it was a comprehensive win, I was happy with it. It was never going to be an easy game from the start, but I was happy with how we performed and how we were patient at times.

“We only knew it was going to be a matter of time before we could break that deadlock, but we stuck with it and it was a good finish from Kirsty. That is what we wanted to do, it can always be a little bit nerve-racking coming into a big stadium and feeling a little bit of pressure to put on a performance and score goals. “

“It is not easy to keep clean sheets. It is something that we do, we make sure we go to the defenders and the keepers for at the end of the game, without them we are not able to score those goals. We like to build and we like to play a certain way, they are just as important for us in possession as they are out of it too.”

Something building

It is impossible to ignore the job that Potter is doing at Rangers this season as her side not only beat teams but dismantle them with the sort of cutting edge that in recent seasons hadn’t been present in the Light Blues performances.

When they win matches, they do it with a style that is not only good for their goal difference. It also entices fans t come to see more games as they know that they will be entertained, as in their last four outings the Gers have scored 29 goals.

It doesn’t get any easier for Potter’s side however as their next game is against their Old Firm rivals Celtic on Sunday 22 October in a fixture that could well be season-defining as there is only a two-point gap between the teams at the top of the league.

A win away to Celtic would be a huge boost for Rangers and would cap off what has been an excellent few weeks for the Light Blues, hopefully, they can put on another show and get the job done against the Hoops.
