BBC pundit makes Celtic admission as Rangers announce Philippe Clement

Andy Campbell believes that Philippe Clement needs to improve the fortunes of Rangers as they’ve fallen short in front of Celtic in recent years.

The former Middlesbrough striker told the BBC that their trophy return has been poor with their cross-town rivals enjoying the majority of the honours.

In his view, Gers are the best suited to stop the Celtic domination and urges Clement to perform.

He said on 16 October, 11:17 am, “One will be to add silverware, and quickly.

“Two trophies in two-and-a-bit years is a poor return given Rangers’ substantial fanbase and spending.

“All Scottish clubs have struggled to prevent Celtic winning any of the available trophies over the past seven years, but Rangers have much more resources at their disposal and their cup record has been particularly poor.

“New manager Philippe Clement has a quick opportunity to improve those statistics, though. Rangers will face Hearts in next month’s Viaplay Cup semi-final, with Aberdeen meeting Hibernian in the other last-four tie.”

Stop the rut

Clement has the chance to bring the glory days back to Rangers and he’s certainly got a task on his hands.

Rangers are already playing catch up in the league and Celtic hold a significant lead at this early stage in the season.

However, they will drop points and there will be more Old Firm derbies to come so Clement’s got to get his side prepared for that.

The quality of football is expected to be better and it remains to be seen if a new sporting director comes in before the January transfer window.

There are chances of Paul Mitchell being in line to come to Ibrox and he’ll be the ideal man for the job.

Gers are yet to find a replacement for Ross Wilson and his past association with Clement could see him moving to Glasgow.
