Alex McLeish issues Ibrox and Celtic reality check as Philippe Clement joins Rangers

Alex McLeish has sent Philippe Clement a warning and also issued a comparison with Celtic as the Belgian joins Rangers.

The former Gers boss believes that he’s going to be under more scrutiny than he’s aware of as he’s not been part of the Scottish footballing culture.

He’s named Rangers as one of the 10-15 sides in the world that are expected to win each game they play.

Rangers

He told the BBC: “We all know about the scrutiny and guys who come into Celtic and Rangers from abroad probably don’t get it to begin with.

“But he will realise Rangers are one of the ten to 15 teams in the world who have to win every week.

“I had some fantastic days at the club but when you are not winning, it’s absolute torture.

“You can’t sleep at night when you can’t get results.”

Spot on

One does not get too much time at Rangers to set things right until there are clear signs of the club heading in the right direction.

Clement’s obviously not going to be judged by his first few games but after three months if the side is worse than it is now, there could be discontent arising behind the scenes.

He’s a top manager with a proven track record so fans have very little reason to worry about his appointment not working in the short term.

Rangers

The board need to back him just like they backed Michael Beale and build the future in his vision and not something they decided before hiring him.

If they’ve opted to go for him, they’ve got to follow through on the promises they made him otherwise it will all be pointless.

The club cannot continue this absurd cycle of sacking managers without solving the problems behind the scenes.

In other Rangers news, Celtic have made a decision are set to respond to Gers’ proposal amid ‘Growing Discord’ behind the scenes.
