Rangers directors want to hire Sam Jewell as new Ibrox transfer chief as manager appointment made

Rangers directors are looking to appoint Sam Jewell as the club’s new director of football, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported on its website on Saturday (14 October) that the Gers are hoping to persuade the Brighton head of recruitment to Ibrox after he was the brains behind the signings of players such as Moises Caicedo and Carlos Baleba at the Premier League club.

It added that the 34-year-old, who has been dubbed a “starfinder” could be tempted to join the Light Blues if the role is backed up by a budget that can “turn round the fortunes” of the club after Philippe Clement has been announced as the new manager.

Statement

It would be a real statement that Rangers are no longer messing around on the recruitment front if they can tempt Jewell to make the move to Ibrox.

He is highly thought of at Brighton and by other Premier League clubs, having previously turned down offers in favour of staying at the Amex Stadium.

After Michael Beale was handed free reign to sign the players he wanted over the summer, it appears as though the club are now looking to take on a more forward-thinking approach.

The newspaper said Jewell would be the “ideal replacement” for Ross Wilson after he quit the Gers to join Nottingham Forest in April.

It comes after Clement has signed a deal to become the new Light Blues manager after winning the race ahead of Kevin Muscat following the final interviews over the past few days.

In other Rangers news, one Ibrox favourite could be finished after the Clement appointment.
