Rangers to hire new manager within days barring any ‘unexpected developments’

Rangers are set to hire a new manager within days, unless there are any “unexpected developments” in the process, according to The Scotsman.

The newspaper reported in its print edition on Saturday (14 October, back page) that the Light Blues were closing in on appointing Michael Beale’s successor at Ibrox, with Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat set to go “head-to-head” having had detailed discussions with James Bisgrove and John Bennett.

Unless there are any “unexpected developments” in the coming days, it will be one of either Muscat or Clement in the hot seat for Rangers’ clash with Hibernian following the international break as Ibrox directors complete the final round of interviews with both candidates.

The report also mentioned that Frank Lampard fell out of the running following initial discussions while Scott Parker and AZ Alkmaar manager Pascal Jansen were also considered but have since dropped off of the Gers’ radar.

Closing in

Hopefully, Rangers will have a nice swift end to what has felt like an incredibly lengthy search for their new boss and whichever candidate out of Clement or Muscat is preferred will be appointed within days as the Ibrox board hopes.

You would hope after weeks of conversations and talks, both candidates would be keen on the position to a point that there should be no room for any late “unexpected developments” as touted by The Scotsman, but given the dreadful start to the season, you wouldn’t put it past Rangers.

Both Muscat and Clement have an excellent track record in their previous roles and have been successful throughout their managerial careers so far, however getting a tune out of this Gers side has proven incredibly difficult so far this season and won’t be an easy task.

A new manager with new ideas and methods could be the sort of spark that some of the new signings need to get their Rangers’ careers up and running and having them in post for a full week of training before the clash with Hibernian would be a huge boost.

Let’s just hope that the final days of this managerial search go along without any late hiccups, as it would be disastrous for Bisgrove and Bennett to have to look to another candidate so late in the process.
