Kenny Miller shares concern with Rangers managerial appointment process amid Kevin Muscat links

Kenny Miller doesn’t like that Kevin Muscat is among the final candidates to be the next Rangers manager despite not meeting anyone face to face.

The Australian is seen as one of the top candidates to replace Michael Beale at Ibrox alongside Philippe Clement, with a final decision expected before Monday morning and personal terms already agreed.

But Miller, speaking to Clyde Superscorebard 1 (13 October), believes the club can’t make a final decision without meeting him face to face and looking him in the eye first and even suggested it could be why the club haven’t made their mind up yet.

“I tell you what I don’t like – not Kevin Muscat as Rangers manager – the fact that it has been done over Zoom,” he said.

“You need to be looking at them, face to face. You need to look them in the eye. I don’t think you can make the appointment like that.”

And when pushed on whether that could be the cause of the delay, he said: “Maybe.”

Honest

Rangers will have a good idea of the type of man Muscat is from his history as a manager and the talks they’ve had over Zoom, but there is some truth to what Miller is saying.

Until he is stood in front of you and you can hear the authority in his voice and feel his presence, you will never know just how right for the club he is and if he will fit into the role of manager or not.

Obviously the fact that he is currently in a job in Japan has made things very difficult for everyone involved in the process, but if the club were sure that he was the man to take over they would have surely pulled the trigger by now on a face to face meet.

Instead they’ve spoken to other people about the role too and Clement will surely have the advantage considering he is a free agent which means there are no restrictions and no compensation.

If the board are sure that Muscat is the man then they have to have that meeting in person first to confirm it, or we could be walking into a nightmare before his reign has even started.
