Chris Jack shares if new Rangers manager will be backed with funds in January transfer window

John Bennett and the Rangers board will do all they can to ensure the new manager is provided with a budget to strengthen the squad in January, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist, writing in his Q&A piece (14 October) added that there will also be a requirement to try and improve the player already at the new boss’s disposal or utilise the academy.

It has been widely reported that Kevin Muscat and Philippe Clement are now battling it out to land the top job at Ibrox with newspaper journalist Alan Nixon reporting on 13 October on his Patreon page that the latter will be appointed over the weekend.

And Jack shares that the new appointment will only be given what the Rangers board can afford in the transfer market.

He wrote: “Bennett, his board and his backers will do what they can to give the manager a budget to strengthen the squad. There will be a requirement to try and improve the players that have been inherited, as well as utilise the academy.

“Fans can pluck numbers out of the air and say that is the sum that needs spent on this group. It might not be as much as the manager wants, but it will only be as much as Rangers can afford.”

Test of credentials

It is fast approaching two weeks since Beale was sacked, and yet the search for a new manager still goes on but it is abundantly clear that the Rangers board are taking their time and analysing candidates with a fine tooth comb.

When you factor in that the pressure had been seriously mounting on Beale for a good few weeks before he was eventually axed, you would have thought the turnaround would have been a lot quicker.

However, the time taken is perfectly understandable as the new boss will have so much to do in so little time to get this squad closer to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

And with this current squad that Beale has somehow assembled, it may not even be enough.

The squad is imbalanced right now and certainly lacking in several areas but that’s what the new manager will have to work with until at least January, but there’s not even a guarantee he’ll have enough funds to splash.

It won’t be a surprise to see some of Beale’s recent acquisitions moved on too which could help but it’s certainly a test of the new manager’s credentials and whether he can work wonders with a squad in desperate need of a confidence boost and tactical structure.

It’s no wonder the Gers board are taking their time. They simply cannot afford to get it wrong, again.
