BBC pundit who knows Kevin Muscat personally makes Rangers manager admission
Billy Dodds believes Rangers managerial target Kevin Muscat did a good job taking over from ex Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou at Yokohama F. Marinos.
Postecoglou, who moved to Tottenham Hotspur after his time at Celtic Park, guided the Japanese side to success and Muscat has picked up from where he’s left off.
The 50-year-old is a former Gers player and is linked with a return to Ibrox but this time as a manager.

Speaking on BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast, via Daily Record, he said “I know Kevin Muscat and the style he’s brought to Yokohama, and I know everyone goes on about it but following on from Ange Postecoglou’s footsteps is a hard one.
“A lot of people like taking jobs when they’re at rock bottom and they weren’t, they were flying under Ange so he’s kept it going so I think that’s a particular positive.
“I know him as a guy, and I’ve not spoken to Musky for a few years, but I know him as a guy and the determination he had as a player doesn’t make you a good coach or manager but he’s shown that taking over from Ange and keeping that going, and the way he’s carried on the success there, it’s a hard job to do and he’s done that.”
Same effect?
If Muscat will have the same effect at Rangers as Postecoglou did at Celtic then by all means, most fans will want him on board.
They desperately need someone to stop the rot, achieve success instantly and also build something for the long term.
It may sound complicated, but Steven Gerrard could do that and his side played good football along the way as well.

That did not happen under Giovanni van Bronckhorst or Michael Beale and it needs to change.
This Gers side has players capable of playing on the front foot and dominating games en route to regaining the title.
This season may be slightly tough, given Celtic’s lead but if they can close the gap in the coming weeks and win the Old Firms, things may turn for the better for whoever the next manager is.
In other Rangers news, an award-winning manager has now asked his representatives to set up an interview with the Ibrox hierarchy as he aims to succeed Michael Beale.
