BBC pundit gushes over Kevin Muscat and Philippe Clement as Rangers eye new manager

Billy Dodds is pleased with the options Rangers have narrowed in on with Kevin Muscat and Philippe Clement in contention.

The former Gers striker believes that they’re doing the right thing by mulling over the decision instead of rushing into it.

He’s heard that it’s down to two candidates and believes that the announcement may not be made before early next week.

Speaking on BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast, via Daily Record, he said, “I can totally understand the Rangers board taking their time over this decision.

“You can’t let the press push you to get an answer quickly, it’s such an important decision for the Rangers board and the club and the players as a whole that they get the right man in.

“And if that takes until the end of the working week, until early into next week then so be it because they have to be sure and I think they’re doing the right thing the Rangers board I really do, taking their time over it.

“I know his [Muscat’s] desire as a person and his will to win so he’s a very good candidate, a very good candidate as is Clement and that’s why they’re taking their time in the decision between, it looks like, the two of them.”

Right decision

The international break gives the club the right amount of time to mull over their preferred candidates and see who the best one is for the job.

They might miss a few training sessions but Steven Davis and the club staff are there to take care of these things in the interim.

Long-term planning too will be among the things discussed and perhaps even the structure of a sporting director in place.

Paul Mitchell is someone who’s worked with Clement at Monaco and his arrival could see the former Spurs transfer chief arrive at Ibrox as well.

After deciding on the manager, the club will then consider who to bring in as sporting director, it seems, and these two appointments need to be on the money.

There will be talks over the next few days and by Tuesday or Wednesday, a fair picture should emerge about who’ll be in charge.

In other Rangers news, an award-winning manager has now asked his representatives to set up an interview with the Ibrox hierarchy as he aims to succeed Michael Beale.
