Peter Martin drops ‘shenanigans’ claim as Rangers manager search continues

Peter Martin says the next Rangers manager must ensure he puts an end to the “shenanigans going on in the dressing room” upon taking over.

The Gers are said to be closing in on the appointment of either Philippe Clement or Kevin Muscat after sacking Michael Beale on 1 October.

Whoever it is that takes on the top job at Ibrox, reporter Martin suggested there are behind-the-scenes matters that must be dealt with.

“You don’t want any shenanigans going on in the dressing room,” he told PLZ Soccer‘s Football Podcast [13 October, 40m 15s].

“And by the way, there’s been a few shenanigans going on in the dressing room.”

Fast start

Exactly what “shenanigans” Martin is referring to is unspecified, but the dressing room is unlikely to be the most united of places right now.

The new Gers boss, whether it be Clement or Muscat, must hit the ground running if this season is not going to be written off.

Winning breeds confidence, of course, and that is the only way the Gers players will all start singing off the same hymn sheet.

After a near two-week search, the Ibrox hierarchy need to make a decision regarding the next boss so that he can get his feet under the table.

Only then can he get to work with the Rangers squad, some of whom are currently away on international duty.

The showdown with Hibernian on October 21 will then give supporters their first chance to see exactly what changes – if any – have been made.

In other Rangers news, Chris Jack has shared a “final decision” update from inside the club.
