Scotland warning emerges as Steve Clarke put forward for Rangers manager job

Ewan Murray has sent Scotland a warning over the future of Steve Clarke, describing him as exactly what Rangers need in their hunt for a new manager.

The Guardian journalist insisted that in a normal world, the build-up to the clash with Spain would come with the prospect of Scotland losing their manager.

It is suggested that Clarke has every attribute required by a “rudderless” Rangers, who are instead looking at Kevin Muscat or Philippe Clement at this stage.

He wrote: “In normal times in a normal world, Scotland’s buildup to their Euro 2024 qualifier in Spain would have been disrupted by speculation and the very real prospect of losing a manager.

“Steve Clarke has every professional attribute required by Rangers as they seek to move on from the inevitably disastrous, and brief, tenure of Michael Beale. Yet Clarke’s name has been notably absent as the Ibrox board plot a path forward, which at this point appears to focus on whether Philippe Clement represents a smaller punt than Kevin Muscat.

“Clarke’s pragmatism, knowledge of the Scottish game, organisational skills and ability to instil an appropriate level of fear into players would serve a rudderless Rangers well.”

Big decision.

With the international break now in full swing, John Bennett will be only caring about matters off the pitch.

Rangers are in a mess right now, and the win over St Mirren before the break under the management of Steven Davis only papered over the cracks.

Clarke to Rangers seems like some sort of joke when first read out loud given the past between the two, but that is exactly the sort of manager that the club needs, someone who can pick up a falling team and transform them.

Muscat and Clement are the two names in the mix, and it is uncertain whether they have had a task such as this one before, despite their differing success.

Taking a note from the international success of Clarke would be welcomed though, whether the man himself would be or not, let’s be honest.

Decision time is coming, it could be within days, let’s hope they get it right.
