Journo claims Philippe Clement no longer favourite for Rangers job in Thursday twist
Journalist Andy Devlin believes that Kevin Muscat, and not Philippe Clement, is now the “slight favourite” to take over as next Rangers manager.
Former Gers defender Muscat, who is currently in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos, and out-of-work Clement are considered the two remaining contenders to succeed Michael Beale.
Speaking on PLZ Soccer‘s The Journos podcast on Thursday (12 October), reporter Peter Martin suggested Rangers “are veering more towards Clement with a four-year deal”.
However, when asked what he has been told about Rangers’ ongoing search for a new manager, The Scottish Sun writer Devlin said (19:04): “I think we are on safe ground to say it’s a two-horse race now between Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat.
“You say Clement, but I think Muscat might be slight favourite at the moment. I think he’s got a bigger sway in the boardroom.”
Almost there
Rangers fans will not care how long it takes to appoint the next manager as long as it is the best candidate to take the club forward.
That said, the aim is surely to have a new man in place in plenty of time for the home visit of Hibernian on 21 October.

There have been plenty of contrasting reports throughout this manager search, but it was felt by many that Clement was closing in on the job.
Devlin clearly has different sources, however, and the fact he mentioned Muscat has a “bigger sway” in the boardroom is rather interesting.
There is quite clearly a split of some sort high up at Ibrox, meaning some will be left disappointed whoever it is that lands the job.
From the supporters’ perspective, both candidates are exciting enough and will get the full backing from the fanbase.
With a bit of luck, a decision will be made before the week is out and we can finally draw a line under the whole saga.
