Rangers ‘fan fury’ revealed after ‘another disastrous misstep’ at Ibrox

Rangers endured a “disastrous misstep” after Michael Beale was left in charge of recruitment, according to Daily Record journalist Andrew Newport.

The man in the dugout, who has since been sacked, dealt with transfers in the summer after director of football Ross Wilson departed in April.

A total of nine players were brought to Ibrox in the transfer window, but Beale was quickly sacked after a poor start to the season.

“It’s now six months since the Ibrox board allowed sporting director Wilson to escape the growing fan fury that was being focused in his direction as another title chase got away from the Light Blues on the back of a failed recruitment drive,” Newport wrote for the Daily Record.

“The decision left Michael Beale holding the keys to the coffers but without anyone above him to keep an eye on how he was spending the club’s cash, it proved to be another disastrous misstep for both the club and the Londoner.”

Tough times

These are certainly tough times at Ibrox, with the club already in real danger of letting fierce rivals Celtic run away with the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers are, however, in with a great chance of clinching some early silverware in the form of the League Cup. They take on Hearts in the semi-final next month, with Hibernian and Aberdeen in the other semi-final after Celtic were knocked out by Kilmarnock in the second round.

There is also the small matter of the Europa League, with all four clubs in Group C sitting on three points after two matches each.

Gers fans are understandably frustrated with the current situation at Ibrox, but there is still a long way to go this season, and they could immediately get back on track with the right appointment in the dugout.

The club got it wrong with Beale, with the manager losing his job after his huge summer overhaul did not go according to plan.

In other Rangers news, a BBC Sport journalist has shared a “copying Celtic” verdict amid the club’s hunt for a new manager.
