Rangers ace Borna Barisic has nightmare display on international duty

Rangers full-back Borna Barisic has had a nightmare performance on international duty and could face the axe at Ibrox as a result of his awful display in Croatia v Turkey.

Barisic has struggled to impress at Rangers so far this season despite being highly regarded at the club, and his poor form looks to have carried over into his international role.

There had been calls earlier in the season for the Glasgow side to cash in on Barisic, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and his form not picking up despite countless chances given to him.

The defender was the standout for his side for all the wrong reasons while on international duty, getting booked after just 34 minutes with his side having fallen behind on the scoreline after a goal scored by Baris Alper Yilmaz.

Rangers’ man completely failed to impact the game before being dragged off after 80 minutes, despite his side having the majority of possession, and his average position extremely high up the pitch with his role both to defend and create from wide areas with his crossing ability.

That crossing ability, though, was sorely lacking tonight. He failed to meet his target with any of his six attempted balls into the box, and he lost possession 14 times as the left-back couldn’t seem to connect with his teammates. He also didn’t complete a single dribble, in a terrible attacking display. [Sofascore]

It was not just in attack where Barisic struggled, though, as defensively, he was still found wanting. Having been booked for a bad foul, he failed to make a clearance, block a shot or win an aerial duel. He won just three of seven attempted ground duels and completely failed to get the better of his man.

With this performance coming seemingly as a culmination of his struggles with Rangers, there will be serious questions asked about his continued role in the first-team at Ibrox, with a potential new manager cringing at this display.

In other Rangers news, one manager has told the club he is ready to join now.
