Charlie Adam makes ‘big’ admission as challenge laid down to next Rangers manager
Rangers need to make a statement as they look to appoint a new manager to replace Michael Beale at Ibrox, according to Charlie Adam.
Speaking on BBC Scotland’s Sacked in the Morning podcast (via BBC Sport, 11 October), the pundit said the Gers board have a “big decision” to make as the next boss has to work with the players the club “invested heavily in” over the summer.
He added that they have to get the “right manager” in to try and close the gap on Celtic after they made an “unbelievable appointment” in persuading Brendan Rodgers to make the move back to Parkhead.

“The people at the top have now got a big decision to make,” said Adam. “They’ve invested heavily in the summer and whoever comes in with this group of players, he’s got to try and get the best out of them.
“It’s now really to try and get the right manager in and they have to try and close the gap on Celtic. I thought Rodgers was an unbelievable appointment, a statement appointment from losing Postecoglou.
“Rangers need to make a statement appointment to try and close that gap and get a group of players firing again and hopefully challenge Celtic for the title.”
Pressure is on
The pressure is very much on the Rangers board to get this appointment right after the club have largely gone backwards over the past year.
They backed Beale and allowed him to spend money to bring in the players he wanted, but he struggled to get a tune out of a number of the new signings.
That task will now fall to whoever the new manager will be because, after the summer spending, there is unlikely to be the same funds available to the next man in the Ibrox hot seat for a while.

That means they will have to be an excellent coach who can work with the players and instil confidence in them that they can compete at the required level.
It will by no means be an easy job, but they will know exactly what they are walking into and what the expectations will be as they look to get the Gers competing for trophies once again.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton and Kris Boyd have been caught in a heated on-air dispute about the manager’s position at Ibrox.
