Rangers managers news as boardroom split emerges at Ibrox this week
Andy Devlin has claimed there is a divide in the boardroom at Rangers over who the next manager will be, with a slight lean towards Kevin Muscat over Philippe Clement, but nothing certain.
The Scottish Sun journalist claims there is a definite split over the preferences, with the Chief Executive, Chairman, Directors and the rest of the board unable to agree on their choice to take over at Ibrox.
The concern for the board is that they have to get this decision right, having sacked Michael Beale for his struggles in form, they need someone who is going to improve the team immediately.
Devlin was speaking on PLZ Soccer on 11 October, where he said: “I think purely because the board can’t decide. I think there’s a split in the board, a definite split on the board as to who they want.
“You’re saying [Philippe] Clement, I think Kevin Muscat is maybe just slight favourite at the moment. I think he’s got a bigger sway in the boardroom, but that is the major issue.
“The directors, chairman, chief execs, they can’t nail this down, they can’t make a decision. The issue for them is they have to get this right.”
A debate will be healthy, but a call must be made
The split in the boardroom is probably a better sign than it seems. While division is never ideal for getting things done, some healthy debate over such a huge decision for the immediate and hopefully long-term future of the club will provide different viewpoints and possibilities.

The divide among the board members is also a sign that there are two very promising and impressive candidates lined up to potentially take over at Ibrox. There will be pros and cons for both sides, but the fact both have impressed is always a positive.
Ultimately, though, someone will have to make the call. Any concerns will have to be put aside and they will have to figure out whether the pros of one balance out the cons more than is the case with the other option.
As Devlin said, they absolutely have to get this decision right, and if that means they take their time over the call, it should benefit the club in the long term as well as right now.
In other Rangers news, one boss is reportedly itching to set the record straight at Ibrox.
