Jo Potter ‘can’t wait’ for Ibrox debut as Rangers Women prepare for clash with Hibernian
Jo Potter is relishing the opportunity to make her Ibrox debut when she manages Rangers Women at the historic ground for the first time against Hibernian.
The Light Blues take on Hibs in the Scottish Women’s Premier League on Sunday (15 October) as they look to extend their winning run to seven matches in all competitions, having comfortably beaten Hamilton Athletic 6-0 last time out.
Rangers have lost their place at the top of the league however, after Celtic won their game in hand to climb two points ahead of Potter’s side, but the Gers manager is hoping that the opportunity to play at Ibrox can push her side to gain ground on their Old Firm rivals.
Speaking to Rangers TV on Wednesday (11 October) she said: “We’re excited to be here, we always want to play big games at big stadiums and hopefully a good crowd can come down and we can put on a good show.
“I can’t wait, these are the games that you want to be a part of and you want to be stood on the touchline at stadiums like this, this ground holds a lot of history for us. We want to play as many games here as possible so it’s going to be really exciting for us.
“When I first came up here and I had a tour of the ground and learned the history of the club and obviously we know everything that is out there with the amount of trophies this club has won. You don’t realise the feeling of it until you stand in the tunnel, you stand in the changing room and you feel the history of it.
“We want to put on a performance, we want to get crowds here, to our home ground but particularly when we come to places like this and play in a big stadium like this, we want to make sure fans want to come back.”
Huge opportunity
Sunday’s clash presents a huge opportunity not just for Rangers on the field but the entire club off of it as well, as a big crowd at Ibrox would show just how far the women’s game has come in recent years and would be a huge boost to Potter’s side.
Rangers have to try and win every game between now and their next Old Firm clash to work on the system that if Celtic slip up at any point they are ready to pounce and reclaim their place at the top of the Premier League, so a win over Hibernian is a must.

Hibs have had an indifferent start to the campaign so far, winning four of their opening nine matches as they sit fifth in the league and 11 points off of Rangers, so like most games for Potter’s team, they are expected to win and likely win comfortably.
Playing at Ibrox may well just ensure that the side doesn’t get complacent as they have shown they are not just capable of beating teams, but running riot against them, including a 12-0 thrashing of Montrose and an 8-1 demolition of Dundee.
