BBC Sport journalist names five players to lead Rangers ‘resurgence’ under new manager at Ibrox

Kheredine Idessane has named five players that could lead a Rangers resurgence under a new manager at Ibrox this season.

Writing on the BBC Sport website on Wednesday (11 October), the journalist highlighted the importance of the return of Todd Cantwell, Danilo, Ryan Jack, Kieran Dowell and Tom Lawrence to the side.

He said they will be coming back into a dressing room with “new direction and fresh energy”, adding that a Gers “resurgence” could be on the cards if they make the right appointment.

Idessane said: “With the likes of Todd Cantwell, Danilo, Ryan Jack, Kieran Dowell and Tom Lawrence all due to return soon to a dressing room with new direction and fresh energy, I wouldn’t rule out some sort of Rangers resurgence in the months ahead. If they choose their next manager wisely.”

Important

The return of the five players highlighted by Idessane will be extremely important to whoever the next Rangers manager will be as talks continue with the candidates.

There is no doubt that their absence will have been felt by Michael Beale and he will probably argue that it had an impact on some of the results towards the end of his tenure.

But you have a squad for a reason and the performances should have been better, so the Englishman can’t grumble too much about that.

At least a couple of the returning players are likely to be in the new Light Blues boss’s first-team plans and he will be hoping they can play a key role in him getting off to a strong start.

The Gers are currently seven points behind Celtic in the SPFL, but if they can put a run of wins together and chip away at that lead when the opportunities arise, then nothing is lost yet and they need to hold onto that.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton and Kris Boyd have been caught in a heated on-air dispute about the manager’s position at Ibrox.
