Philippe Clement desperate for Rangers job despite bumper Saudi contract offer

Former Monaco, Club Brugge and Genk manager Phillipe Clement is desperate to land the Rangers job despite having a bumper offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab, sources have told the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [10 October, pg 50] that Clement remains one of the front-runners for the job alongside former Gers player and Yokohama Marinos manager Kevin Muscat.

It is thought Clement would prefer making his return to management at Ibrox and that may mean he could turn down a big offer from the Saudi club in favour of the Rangers job.

The knowledge that Clement’s preferred move would be to Glasgow should come as an encouraging sign for the Rangers board, as they now know they will not have to attempt to persuade him away from the Saudi deal if they decide he is the man for the job.

With the manager currently out of work, another positive will be that Rangers wouldn’t have to pay a separation fee for his services, and he would be able to join the squad immediately.

Reports have claimed [The Sun, 9 October] the interview process is already underway, with face-to-face talks having begun in London on Monday 9 October, with Clement one of the bosses to sit down with John Bennett, James Bisgrove and Graeme Park.

Clement left his position at Monaco at the end of last season after missing out on European football with a sixth-placed finish. The French side are currently top of Ligue 1 and will feel they made the right call here.
