Journalist shares Philippe Clement ‘risk’ verdict at Rangers with new managerial appointment close
Rangers candidate Philippe Clement’s interest in becoming the new manager is a “good sign” but would be a bit of a “risk” at Ibrox should he be appointed, according to Dean Jones.
The former Eurosport journalist, speaking to GiveMeSport (10 October) shared his verdict after news emerged on Tuesday that the Light Blues have presented a four-year offer to Clement to take over the vacant role [Al-Riyadiah, 10 October].
The Saudi Arabian news publication shared on 10 October that the club are set to present the full offer to Clement in the next few hours during a face-to-face meeting with a decision expected in the next 24 hours.

It is also reported that the contract will include bonuses if Rangers win the league, the Scottish Cup, the League Cup, or qualify for the Champions League and Jones believes Clement would be a better path to go down rather than the likes of Frank Lampard.
He said:
“Philippe Clement seems to be one that is a very interesting candidate to emerge. I think the fact he fancies the job is a good sign.
“In terms of credentials, I also think he is a pretty good profile fit. Appointing him would be a bit of a risk because there are going to be a few unknowns around him. But, generally, this feels like a better path to go down instead of picking someone on name and standing, like you would be with someone like Frank Lampard.”
Unknown quantity but intriguing
Rangers will certainly hope that Clement has the ability to get more out of the numerous summer recruits brought in during Michael Beale’s watch, many of whom have just not really got going as of yet.
The Belgian coach does indeed represent an unknown quantity at Ibrox but he did do some brilliant work at Monaco before his unfortunate sacking at the end of last season.

Clement was known for his attractive and progressive style of football in France, traits which the Gers fans are really desperate for right now and whether he can translate that down to the current players at Ibrox is uncertain.
However, that is the case with any new manager at any big club in Europe but a potential Clement appointment certainly comes with a lot of intrigue because he is a relative unknown in Glasgow.
Rangers have been known to appoint managers who have a past at Ibrox or are linked with the club somehow and after the failures of Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhurst, it may be time to change tact.
Clement does come with a lot of risks and John Bennett and James Bisgrove really do need to ensure that their next decision is the right one. Here’s hoping the Belgian is that man.
