John Eustace ruled out of Rangers manager race as ‘process has gone too far’ – Alex Crook

Alex Crook has said that John Eustace will not be named as the new Rangers manager, as the process has gone too far for new names to be added.

The former Birmingham City boss left St Andrew’s on Monday (9 October) despite the Blues currently sitting sixth in the Championship and Eustace had been linked with the vacant manager’s position at Ibrox earlier in the season when Michael Beale was first at risk of being sacked.

But he is unlikely to be the man to take over from Beale in Glasgow as talkSports’ Crook has claimed that the interview process for new candidates is already too advanced for a new name to enter the race for the Ibrox dugout at this stage.

Rangers

Speaking on talkSport (10 October, 9:28) he said: “I’m told the process has gone too far for any new contender to be added, so he will miss out. Philippe Clement the former Monaco manager, he’s a definite contender. I know a lot of Rangers fans will be keen to get him in.

“Kevin Muscat is still there as well former Rangers player has done really well in Japan and Australia, he’s a bit of an Ange Postecoglou disciple so it will be interesting to see how that one goes down.

“Scott Parker was considered but talkSport has spoken to sources close to the former Fulham manager, but he wants to take a bit more time out so he won’t be the new Rangers manager.”

Then there were two

It feels like we have our final two candidates who could take over at Ibrox as the Light Blues look to get their season back on track after what has been a difficult start to the season under Beale, with both Parker and Eustace ruled out.

Parker’s style of football wouldn’t have been a hit at Ibrox, with Bournemouth and Fulham impressing since the former England midfielder departed both clubs, his slow and laborious style of football wouldn’t have won over many Rangers fans.

Rangers

Eustace would have been a wise appointment and if Rangers were as interested in him as was previously reported it would seem strange if they decided to ignore the fact that he was now available having left Birmingham, no matter how far along they are in their interview process.

The board at Ibrox have said that they will take their time to ensure that they get the right man in charge of the Light Blues so it would seem naive to not interview a potential candidate just because he’s become available at short notice.

It would suggest that a decision is close to being made between either Muscat or Clement in the coming days, it is a toss-up.
