Rangers chiefs enlist Graeme Souness to assist new manager hunt

Rangers chiefs have called on Gers legend Graeme Souness to assist in the hunt for a new boss, with his knowledge and expertise being relied upon in the final stages, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper shared via their website overnight on 8 October that the former Rangers player and manager was present in the London meetings between the board and Frank Lampard before that move was ruled out.

Souness is thought to be advising chairman John Bennett, CEO James Bisgrove and director Graeme Park as they work their way through the remaining candidates to replace Michael Beale.

Getting an experienced head in the game

To bring in someone who knows the game, and specifically understands Rangers football club, in to assist in the decision surrounding the new manager could be a masterstroke by the chief decision-makers at Ibrox.

He knows what it takes to bring success to the blue half of Glasgow, and his harsh but realistic view of the game will provide no easy route for a manager to take charge. He has high standards but understands the game and knows what it means to represent Rangers.

The search for the new manager, as shared by the Daily Record, could be completed by the middle of this week, with the board looking to get their new man in during the international break when he will have time to work with the players ahead of their visit from Hibernian.

Pressure has increased on the board after Steven Davis began his managerial spell with a loss in the Europa League to Aris Limassol, and despite the win against St Mirren on Sunday 8 October, the decision over a new boss cannot come quick enough at Ibrox.
