Kris Boyd insists Steven Davis will not be named next Rangers manager as new role mooted
Kris Boyd insisted live on air that Steven Davis will not be named the next Rangers manager to replace Michael Beale following his sacking.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the Gers’ 3-0 win over St Mirren on Sunday (8 October, 02:28pm), the pundit said there is “no way” that the Northern Irishman will be handed the job on a full-time basis after being appointed as the interim boss.
But he added that the 38-year-old should be given a role at the club if he decides to bring an end to his playing career in the near future.

“There is no way Steven Davis is going to be the next manager of Rangers,” said Boyd. “There’s no way. But for me, should he decide to hang up his boots, there should be a role there for him moving forward.”
Too soon
It’s far too soon to even be considering Davis as the new manager of Rangers due to his lack of experience and his aspirations to continue playing.
It has been a tricky job for the Northern Irishman to step into after Beale was sacked following the defeat to Aberdeen on 30 September.
He quickly learned how difficult the job is after suffering an embarrassing loss to Aris Limassol in the Europa League on Thursday (5 October) before picking up a valuable three points against St Mirren.

It seems likely that will have been Davis’ last game in charge of the Gers as a new manager will surely be appointed during the international break.
But Boyd is right that there should be a role for him with the Light Blues once he does return after what he has contributed to the club over the years.
In other Rangers news, a Sky Sports pundit was baffled at a high-profile manager being linked with the Ibrox job.
