Star player

Tavernier has been the Gers hero on countless occasions over the years, with the defender shining at both ends of the pitch during his lengthy spell in Glasgow.

But while his goals have been warmly welcomed by all associated with the Ibrox outfit, they will also come as a concern, with the attackers seemingly not living up to expectation.

Fans and indeed interim manager can have no complaints over loan signing Sima, who has regularly been among the goals since joining, but the likes of Danilo, Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers have all struggled.

Davis perhaps made that point very clear against St Mirren, with youngster Zak Lovelace handed a starting role. And he was even replaced by fellow youngster Ross McCausland after his first-half injury, with Dessers and Lammers not introduced until the second-half.

All in all, however, the interim boss should be pleased at picking up three points against Stephen Robinson’s high-flying St Mirren, with another valuable clean sheet also recorded.

In other Rangers news, Gers fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief as an “unmatched” Brendan Rodgers statistic emerges.
