Rangers: Hugh Keevins shares what he’s told about James Tavernier driving back to England in Lamborghini
Hugh Keevins has claimed a Rangers uprising could be on the cards at Ibrox after a fan’s views on James Tavernier were shared live on air.
Writing for the Daily Record (8 October), Keevins discussed a fan who called into Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard radio show and criticised the Gers captain, telling him to leave the club in his sports car.
Keevins suggested that when fans’ outrage centres on the amount of money the players are being paid, it can be a “reliable barometer” of discontent.

Keevins wrote: “If yet more ground is lost to Celtic in the title race they will not escape the fury of fans on the verge of revolution.
“The notion of uprising occurred to me when one caller to the radio said Ibrox captain James Tavernier should ‘Get back in his Lamborghini’ and drive home to England. I have no idea if that is Tavernier’s vehicle of choice, but I am told it is.
“When results are bad and supporters become resentful about what players earn, while referencing their material possessions, it is a reliable barometer of unrest.”
Fragile
Fans can turn very quickly in a season. Their biggest point of contention among Rangers fans seems to be the amount of effort the players are giving on matchday, which based on results has been subpar.
Radio callers can often be emotional and highly critical and players’ flashy possessions can be easy targets for ridicule. While his Tavernier’s Lamborghini seems irrelevant to his performances, this interaction between Keevins and the caller reflects the growing disconnect between those on the terraces and those on the pitch.

The relationship is very fragile, but there would be very little the Ibrox faithful could do to change what’s happening on the pitch. The players owe it to the fans to bring the wins back to Glasgow as soon as possible, while the fanbase can only hope that Michael Beale’s replacement can be an instant success.
Rangers have some tough fixtures in the next month, including welcoming both Hearts and Hibernian to Ibrox, while the League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park against the Edinburgh side could quite literally break their season before Christmas.
This situation was something of a shock to all involved, but everyone at the club must do their best to avoid a total fan uprising.
