Michael Beale wants Sheffield Wednesday job after ‘quick exit’ from Rangers

Michael Beale wants a quick return to management at Sheffield Wednesday after his sacking by Rangers, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing on his Patreon (8 October), the Sun journalist claimed that the recently dismissed Ibrox boss is “chasing” a number of jobs including the vacant Sheffield Wednesday job in the English Championship.

Beale is hopeful that, despite his short spell in Scotland, his previous experience including his time at Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa will be enough to get him a new job quickly.

Understandable

While Beale will be quick to say how much he enjoyed his time at Rangers, it is understandable that he will want to leave it behind him and find a new job quickly.

He will be eager to salvage any damage done to his reputation and seek a slightly lower-pressure workplace for his next role, and a return to the Championship seems like a sensible move.

Beale excelled in West London with QPR and saw the rather thin squad to the top of the English second division. The likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers attempted to bring him to the Premier League, showing how regarded he was at the time.

However, his return to Glasgow was no success and he was sacked amid heavy pressure from the fanbase and the board less than a year into his tenure. The Englishman, still aged just 43, will still be keen on a successful managerial career and his previous experience would certainly be enough to get him a new job.

However, he won’t want to rush into a new role just for the sake of it. Graham Potter, another manager dismissed under similar circumstances, is still yet to find a new role despite an offer from Rangers themselves, so Beale may opt to take this route. Beale would be sensible to bide his time and wait for an appropriate role to avoid any further tarnishing of his reputation.

Sheffield Wednesday find themselves at the foot of the Championship table, with former boss Xisco Munoz with just two points in their opening 10 games. While the Owls managed a rare point on Saturday (7 October) under caretaker manager Neil Thompson, Beale would have a big job on his hands if he returned to management at Hillsborough.

In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd has given an “outstayed their welcome” verdict on some senior Ibrox stars.
