Kris Boyd urges Rangers to appoint Kevin Muscat live on Sky Sports
Kris Boyd has urged Rangers live on air to appoint Kevin Muscat as the club’s new manager to replace Michael Beale.
Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the Gers’ 3-0 win against St Mirren on Sunday (8 October, 11:25am), the pundit said the Australian obviously knows the football club after playing for the Gers for a season.
But he insisted that he isn’t being caught up in that the next manager needs to be a “Rangers man”, adding that the Yokohama F. Marinos boss “ticks a lot of boxes”.

“Kevin Muscat, he obviously knows the football club,” said Boyd. “I’m not being caught up in that you need to have a Rangers man. What Rangers need is the best man for the job.
“I think Kevin Muscat ticks a lot of boxes for me. But I think where Rangers football club is at this moment in time, it needs to be the right person to take the football club forward.”
Different
There have been quite a few names thrown into the mix to be the next Rangers manager, but Muscat appears to be a bit different to the other options.
There seems to be a theme of throwing high-profile individuals into the conversation and there are questions around whether that is what the Gers need at this moment in time.
The 50-year-old has quite a few years under his belt coaching in Australia and Japan, claiming league titles in both of those countries along the way.

While people may look down at his experience, you only need to look at the impact his compatriot Ange Postecoglou had at Celtic to know that it doesn’t count for everything.
As Boyd pointed out, he does also know what the Light Blues are about after his time playing for the club so he does deserve to be seriously considered for the top job at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has raged at a controversial incident against St Mirren.
