Kris Boyd baffled at Wayne Rooney being linked with Rangers job
Kris Boyd was left baffled live on air at why Wayne Rooney is being linked with becoming the new Rangers manager.
Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the Gers’ 3-0 win against St Mirren on Sunday (8 October, 11:25am), the pundit said he believes the 37-year-old has only emerged as one of the bookies’ favourites because he left DC United on Saturday (7 October).
He added that he doesn’t know why the Englishman would be in the mix after he has yet to really prove his credentials as a manager.

“Obviously Wayne Rooney has just been put in there because he left DC United last night,” said Boyd. “I don’t know why else he would be in there.”
Unlikely
It seems pretty unlikely that Rangers would consider appointing Rooney after he left DC United after failing to reach the MLS playoffs.
He previously did a decent job in charge of Derby County, but he hasn’t really done anything in the game as a manager to put him in the conversation to take over at Ibrox.
The Gers absolutely need someone with more experience than the former England international, even though he was one of the finest players of his generation.

But just like Frank Lampard, who was also linked with the position, that isn’t enough for them to be in with a chance of replacing Michael Beale in the hot seat.
There is likely to be an appointment made at Ibrox within the next week or so, but it would be a real surprise if that did turn out to be Rooney as he doesn’t appear to be the right man for what’s needed at the club at this moment in time.
