Johnly Yfeko in contention to make Rangers SPFL debut v St Mirren

Rangers defender Johnly Yfeko is likely to make the matchday squad against St Mirren on Sunday, 8 October, in the Scottish Premiership, according to Football Scotland.

The media outlet reported on 7 October that the English left-back is in contention after he was left out of the B Team game against Monaco.

Along with him, a host of other players were omitted who are understood to be on the cusp of the first team.

Debut incoming?

Yfeko has made his debut for Rangers but it’s been in the League Cup and he’s yet to feature in the Scottish Premiership.

The fact that he did not feature on Friday puts him in contention for a spot on the bench at the very least and it could be a scenario where he comes in off the bench.

The 20-year-old is a left-back who can play as a centre-back and Steven Davis will have worked with him behind the scenes as well.

Bailey Rice, Zak Lovelace, Ross McCausland and Cole McKinnon are others likely to make the bench on Sunday as well.

This will be Davis’ last game in charge of this stint so he might want to give some of the youngsters a chance to prove their worth before a new manager arrives.

Hopefully, they play with their shackles off and show some of the first-team regulars how to play with passion as that clearly seems to be lacking.
