Chris Sutton rages at ‘really stupid’ controversial incident in Rangers win v St Mirren
Chris Sutton raged live on air at a controversial incident that took place in the first half of the Rangers game against St Mirren on Sunday (8 October).
Speaking on Sky Sports on Sunday (02:32pm), the pundit said it was “really stupid” from Ryan Strain as the Saints defender was sent off for a blatant handball inside the box.
James Tavernier stepped up and slotted the penalty into the bottom corner to set the Gers on their way to picking up a 3-0 win in Paisley.

“It was really stupid from Ryan Strain,” said Sutton. “I really don’t know what he was thinking here because Sima still has to score. But you know, it’s a deliberate handball, a denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
“They took their time getting to the decision, but it was the right one for Rangers.”
Blatant
It was a moment of madness from the St Mirren defender and one that he probably regrets massively now after it cost his side any chance of getting something from the game.
While some may see it as harsh for him to concede a penalty and be sent off, it was a clear goalscoring opportunity and the rules are clear in these instances.
You also know the officials definitely made the right decision in the end when Sutton agrees as he often goes against most things in Rangers’ favour.

Although Sima would’ve had a great chance to score at the back post, the ball was fired in quickly from Zak Lovelace and he may not have been able to put it into the back of the net.
But the Light Blues will be pleased with the way things panned out and, despite it still not being completely convincing after the red card, the three points will be the most important thing for them.
In other Rangers news, an official club partner was left disgusted by what the Gers players did against Aris.
