BBC pundit baffled by strange incident in Rangers away end after goal v St Mirren
The Rangers fans had a “strangely subdued” reaction to their opening goal against St Mirren, according to Neil McCann.
Speaking on BBC Sportscene (8 October), the pundit wondered what the Ibrox reaction would be as James Tavernier stepped up to convert the first-half spot kick, but the crowds were less than enthusiastic.
Rangers took a 1-0 lead into the break after a dominant performance against St Mirren, but the fanbase is seemingly yet to be convinced that the situation is improving.

McCann said: “I wondered what reaction the players would get from the supporters if the penalty went in. It’s strangely subdued.”
No surprise
No one will be shocked by the reaction of the Ibrox faithful as the much-criticised Tavernier converted a contentious spot kick midway through the first half.
While Rangers dominated the shooting and possession statistics, their first-half performance was not enough to bring the fans back onside. This process will take a while, but a win against a strong St Mirren side would be a good, if small, first step.

The fanbase was seen with banners criticising the current state of the club, with Michael Beale’s poor start to the season leaving the club astray in the league, emphasising the huge discontent in the terraces.
The journey will be long for the club, but whoever takes the reigns in the dugout can expect such reactions for a while until they get back to convincing winning ways.
In other Rangers news, the incoming manager has some hope for the future after news that emerged on Friday.
