Tam McManus predicts more misery for Steven Davis as Rangers do not have the ‘minerals’ to win at St Mirren

Pundit Tam McManus has predicted more misery for Steven Davis and Rangers as he does not think they have the “minerals” to win at St Mirren on Sunday (October 8).

The Gers were beaten 3-1 by Aberdeen last time out in the Scottish Premiership, a result that signalled the end of Michael Beale’s tenure at Ibrox.

A limp 2-1 loss at Aris Limassol followed in the Europa League for Davis’ first game of his temporary stint and McManus, speaking on PLZ Soccer, thinks another loss is on the cards at St Mirren Park.

“I fancy St Mirren to beat Rangers, I really would. I said last week against Aberdeen, I went for a draw,” he said,

“But I’m going to stick my neck out here and I think St Mirren will beat Rangers.

“I’m not sure this Rangers team has got the minerals to win that game. I think St Mirren will come and be physical and get after Rangers.

“They’ll stick balls in behind, stick balls on top of defenders and I don’t see a fight in this Rangers team to go to St Mirren and win.”

Only one way to prove him wrong

No professional footballer ever wants to hear that they do not have the “minerals” to win tough football matches.

But has anybody in a Rangers shirt been able to disprove that theory so far this season? Pretty much every big question they have been asked so far this season they have failed, in some cases emphatically – see the defeats to PSV and Aberdeen.

The loss to Limassol midweek was another dour note in a season that has unravelled at ridiculous speed considering all the pre-season optimism after nine new faces arrived under the now-departed Beale.

It is a simple equation now, though. Go out there on Sunday, show a bit of pride for the shirt, put a shift in, come back with three points, and prove you do have the minerals.

If any player does not do that then they will not last long at Ibrox, because whoever replaces Beale in the dugout will make sure any deadwood is moved on in January.

Over to you Rangers…
