Kris Boyd tells Rangers when they must hire new manager by, before ‘league is over’
Kris Boyd has called for Rangers to speed up their search for a new manager and appoint their new boss “by next Monday” before the “league is over”.
The Light Blues parted company with Michael Beale following a disappointing start to the season, with a 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen the final straw for the former QPR boss, but things quickly got worse for the Gers as they lost to Aris Limassol in the Europa League.
Steven Davis has been placed in temporary charge of Rangers until they find the right man to take over at Ibrox, but former Rangers forward Boyd believes that those in charge of the Light Blues need to find their new manager sooner rather than later.

Boyd wrote in the Scottish Sun (6 October): “Rangers chairman John Bennett said the Ibrox board would take “as long as it takes” before replacing Beale. They don’t have that time. They need a new manager in place by next Monday to prepare for the league restarting.
“If I was Steven Davis as interim boss, I would want out of this mess as soon as possible. Much more of this and there could be damage done to his coaching or managerial career before it’s even started.
“The Aris defeat was a new low and now Rangers face a tough away game against St Mirren at lunchtime on Sunday. If they lose and fall further behind, the league is over.”
Don’t have time
Rangers spent a lot of money this summer attempting to build Beale the side that would be able to overthrow Celtic and return the Light Blues to the top of the pile in the Scottish Premiership, but it just simply did not work out and now the Gers are already playing catch up after a poor start to the campaign.
They now need to ensure that they get the best manager in a position to get some sort of positive performance out of the players already in position at Ibrox and if they want that transition to happen quickly they need to make an appointment sooner rather than later.
The only advantage of changing manager at this stage of the season is that whoever takes over at Ibrox will have two weeks to work with the players before they take to the pitch, a short period that can almost serve as a mini pre-season.

But if there isn’t a new manager in position by the start of the international break, the Light Blues are going to be wasting valuable time that they could have been using to adapt to the new coach’s style and given the gap already to Celtic that is time that cannot be wasted.
You can understand Bennett’s desire to take his time to find the perfect candidate as the last appointment showed you have to be careful when selecting your new manager, but time is of the essence and as Boyd said, the league could well and truly be wrapped up against St Mirren if the Gers lose again.
