Kevin Muscat is ‘Outsider’ for Rangers job after Frank Lampard ruled out of contention – BBC

Kevin Muscat is now seen as an “outsider” for the Rangers manager’s job after Frank Lampard was ruled out of the running, according to BBC presenter Kenny McIntyre.

Gers sacked Michael Beale last weekend and have begun the process to replace him, with final interviews expected next week and Londoner Lampard already ruled out of the process.

But now Muscat has reportedly dropped down the pecking order when it comes to the candidates too, with McIntyre sharing what he has been told while appearing on BBC Sposrtscene.

Rangers

“I’ve been told it’s Philippe Celement, Kevin Muscat, Pascal Jansen and Frank Lampard have all been spoken with,” he said.

“Lampard is no longer under consideration.

“I’ve been told Muscat is an outsider. Clement is a free agent but has other suitors and Jansen is very much of interest.”

Interesting

Many people had both Lampard and Muscat right at the top of the list for the most likely next Rangers manager a few days ago, and now both seem to be out of the running.

Obviously he is currently in a job and so his comments about being committed to his current role would be expected, but Rangers distancing themselves from him is certainly an interesting development.

Clement has already flown to Glasgow to hold talks about the job but there is competition from Saudi Arabia to get him in and that could see the Ibrox club priced out of a move, while Pascal Jansen is seemingly not that interested because AZ Alkmaar are doing very well.

That then starts to look like the club may have to dip into a pool of manager’s they aren’t particularly interested in right now, which will obviously never go well.

It’s not looking great right now as a fan looking in from the outside, so hopefully things turn around quickly and become more clear.
