Steven Thompson shares damning Rangers verdict as new manager prediction made

Steven Thompson has taken aim at the Rangers players following their dismal display against Aris Limassol on Thursday (5 October).

The BBC Scotland pundit said after the 2-1 defeat that the Gers players fell short of the “acceptable standards” in the Europa League clash against the Cypriot side.

He added that it will be “very difficult” for whoever takes over from Michael Beale to get anything out of the Light Blues team as they are “fragile, lacking confidence and creativity” at this moment in time.

Rangers

“To play for Rangers it takes leaders, big characters, players that roll their sleeves up and lead from the front,” said Thompson. “Not one of those players took that responsibility. They looked to each other for help. They needed a reaction. These players have again fallen short of the acceptable standards at Rangers.

“For any potential incoming manager, it’ll be very difficult to get something out of this team. They don’t look like a side that can win games. They’re fragile, lacking confidence and creativity.”

Time to stand up

There are still some experienced heads in the Rangers dressing that really need to stand up and make themselves accounted for immediately.

This season is already in danger of getting away from the Gers, as they sit seven points behind Celtic in the SPFL and the defeat to Aris puts their chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds of the Europa League under threat.

It just hasn’t been good enough from the players as a collective recently and they desperately need to find a way to start playing together.

Rangers

It isn’t always easy when a squad faces an overhaul like the one that was seen as Ibrox over the summer, but that is not an excuse for the lack of effort from some individuals of late.

They will certainly have to buck their ideas up once a new manager arrives through the door because they will surely be demanding much better than the recent displays from the Light Blues players.

In other Rangers news, Chris Jack has shared a “surprised” admission as he detailed the timeline for a new manager appointment.
