Simon Jordan does Frank Lampard U-turn live on talkSPORT as new Rangers manager story emerges
Simon Jordan admits he’s changed his mind about Frank Lampard with the ex-Chelsea manager now strongly linked with being the next Rangers boss.
On Friday morning (6 October), talkSPORT reported via their website that 45-year-old Lampard has made Rangers’ final shortlist as they look to replace Michael Beale, who was sacked at the weekend.
Since Lampard’s first managerial job at Derby in 2018, Jordan admits his opinion has changed on the former England midfielder because he believes he should’ve done better at Pride Park and Chelsea while at Everton, he was almost responsible for the Toffees’ first-ever Premier League relegation.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (6 October, 11:54am), ex-Crystal Palace owner Jordan said: “I find myself being in the unenviable position of being an advocate for Frank Lampard [in his] early days and suggesting that he would go on to have a significant managerial career, using the comparison to other managers at the time that I felt he would eclipse.
“I now find myself in a completely different position because of new information – and when you get new information, you should pivot if that new information gives you the opportunity to do so.
“I look at Frank and I’m not entirely sure.”

Who is favourite for the Rangers job?
Right now, it seems like it’s Lampard.
There have been a lot of other names mentioned to be in the running but the focus of talkSPORT’s story is firmly on Lampard and Yokohama F Marinos manager Kevin Muscat.
One of those managers has experience of managing in the biggest league in the world and also one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Whether he did well or not at Chelsea doesn’t pave over that point.
Muscat is a former Rangers player and if it wasn’t for that and the fact that he’s now managing at Yokohama, who ex-Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou managed before heading to Parkhead, he wouldn’t be in the discussion.
Muscat seems like a lazy choice.
The last two managers have come to Rangers after previously being at Ibrox in some capacity.
One got us to a European final and won the Scottish Cup but did badly in the league and was eventually sacked.
The other was just completely hapless and is better off going back to being an assistant manager.
Neither are amazing options out of Lampard or Muscat but out of the two, Lampard is perhaps the best because at least there are similarities that can be drawn between him and Steven Gerrard, who stopped 10-in-a-row.
In other Rangers news, a timeline has been shared for when the Gers expect to make a “final verdict” on their new manager.
