Scottish newspapers slaughter Sam Lammers display in Rangers Europa League defeat v Aris
Sam Lammers has been blasted for his performance in Rangers’ Europa League defeat to Aris Limassol by two of Scotland’s main newspapers.
In the first game of the post-Michael Beale era, interim manager Steven Davis got off to a rough start as his side lost 2-1 away in Cyprus on Thursday night (5 October).
Lammers, 26, cost the Gers around £3million in the summer but he failed to show he’s worth a fraction of that with a woeful performance against Aris and was substituted off in the 68th minute of the loss.

The the Scottish Daily Mail on 6 October (page 79), Lammers was given a rating of 3.5/10 with journalist Calum McClurkin saying: “Supposed to be the link-up man in attack but gave the ball away repeatedly. No surprise he was hooked.”
No Rangers player was rated lower than Lammers by the Scottish Daily Mail.

As for the Daily Record, they rated Lammers even lower with a 3/10.
On page 50 of the print edition on 6 October, David McCarthy wrote: “No energy, no desire, trying to take too many touches and continues to look like a player completely out of his depth in a Rangers jersey.”

Atrocious
It’s unfair to single out just Lammers here because almost every single Rangers player on Thursday night was in wretched form.
Davis has been thrown into the deep end with this lot.
It would have been a tough job no matter what to step in as an interim manager when never having any kind of managerial experience but right now, it’s even harder.
That’s because Rangers’ board allowed Beale to do what he wanted with the first-team squad in the summer even though it was always going to be one of the biggest summer transfer windows in years at Ibrox.

They didn’t bother replacing Ross Wilson properly and that led to a manager signing players who he wanted even though he wasn’t likely to last long in the job at Ibrox.
Now, there’s a squad of players who have barely got to grips with the Glaswegian accent who have lost the man who brought them there in the first place.
What an absolute mess this is.
If Beale couldn’t get a tune out of the players he signed then what chance does Davis or the next man have?
In other Rangers news, one man is said to be “advancing” on the job after three sets of talks with the Ibrox hierarchy already.
