Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers axed, Ross McCausland starts – Predicted Rangers XI v St Mirren

Steven Davis could be set to make three changes to his Rangers side for their crunch SPFL clash with St Mirren on Sunday at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.

The legendary midfielder oversaw the 2-1 defeat to Aris Limassol in Cyprus on Thursday in his first game as interim boss since Michael Beale’s sacking, with very limited options to choose from due to an ongoing injury crisis at the club.

And now he could be set to ring the changes in what is expected to be his final game as boss, with an appointment on a new boss expected during the international break.

Jack Butland should keep his place in the side as his form continues to be good despite the string of poor results in recent times, although Robby McCrorie remains a more than able understudy.

James Tavernier and Connor Goldson’s form hasn’t been the best recently but both are short of genuine competition for their spots and will continue to start on the right hand side of the defence, while Davis is likely to continue with Ben Davies and Borna Barisic on the left ahead of John Souttar and Ridvan Yilmaz.

The boss will be short of options in midfield once again, but with attacking numbers even slimmer it could see a slightly different setup to what we have been used to this season.

John Lundstram, Nicolas Raskin and Jose Cifuentes all featured against Aris and are all fit, so should all start to add a bit more defensive stability and more control to the team in the absence of key figures such as Todd Cantwell and Ryan Jack.

Further forward Abdallah Sima found the net once again in Cyprus to make it four goals in his last five games and he will continue on the left-wing as he looks to be the biggest goal threat at the club right now.

Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers joined Rangers for a combined fee of around £6m in the summer but have really struggled to hit the ground running, and Davis could axe both down to the bench after their midweek performances.

That could see a fit-again Kemar Roofe installed in his favoured number nine role leading the line, while academy starlet Ross McCausland could get a shock start after coming off the bench against Aris.
