Ally McCoist shares what he’s heard about Rangers new manager interviews amid Ibrox ‘carnage’

Ally McCoist has slammed Rangers for the “carnage” currently surrounding Ibrox as the side’s form continued to plummet away at Aris Limassol on Thursday night.

Steven Davis took charge as interim manager for the first time since Michael Beale’s sacking but there was little he could do to inject any kind of quality into the team as they were beaten in Cyprus in the Europa League on 5 October.

Numerous names have been linked with the vacancy at Ibrox after Beale was axed on Sunday (1 October) and McCoist has heard that interviews have started at his former club.

Speaking as an out-of-studio guest on talkSPORT while on a charity bike ride on Friday morning (6 October, 08:47am), McCoist said: “It’s been carnage. It was poor last night – really, really poor. I watched it and we’re just going to have to change direction and get somebody in.

“I’m not sure, if I’m 100 per cent honest with you, because for three or four days I’ve been trying to keep in touch but I know they’ve interviewed one or two, Frank Lampard has been mentioned.

“But this time, 100 per cent, Rangers have got to get it right in terms of the next manager. You’ve got to be honest, it’s not been good enough by any stretch of the imagination.”

Carnage, indeed

Rangers are an absolute mess.

They’ll go into the clash at St Mirren on Sunday (8 October) three points behind them in the Scottish Premiership table after losing three of their last seven games in all competitions.

Defeats to Celtic and Aberdeen were the final nails in the coffin for Beale while that defeat against Aris under Davis’ charge show that there are more issues at Ibrox away from the manager.

Unfortunately, the summer recruitment was spearheaded mainly by Beale so he’s to blame for signing bad players.

However, the board are more to blame than anyone for not bringing someone in who’s proven in that field who’d outlast any manager and be able to stamp some kind of identity on the squad.

It was always going to be a tough manager but Beale is a rookie manager and Rangers put their destiny in his hands even though he’s done some very under-hand things in the last 12 months or so.

In other Rangers news, the club have been told to bring an up and coming manager who is gunning for back-to-back promotions into the frame by a former charge.
