Sky Sports journalist moots ‘situation’ behind Steve Bruce candidacy for Rangers manager job
Steve Bruce is “interested” in the Rangers job but there may be an issue at play behind him being “put forward” to the Ibrox board, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist told GIVEMESPORT on 5 October that he think there is “a situation there” when it comes to the former West Brom manager having his name being suggested to the Gers hierarchy.
The experienced Englishman, 62, has been out of work since last season when he was sacked at The Hawthorns, having previously managed the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle and Wigan Athletic.

Sheth said: “One bit of information I got yesterday was that Bruce was interested in the job. His name has been put forward to the Rangers hierarchy. But I think there is a situation there.
“They’ve got a European game in Cyprus this evening. But some of the hierarchy at Rangers have stayed behind in Glasgow to try and get this sorted and get this decision right because, as it stands, they’re already a long way behind Celtic, generally, but also a long way behind them in the table.
“They will need to get this one right if they are to close that gap in the short term and particularly in the long term too.”
Irrelevant
While it is unclear exactly what “situation” Sheth might be alluding to it shouldn’t really matter because Bruce is not the man to lead Rangers out of their current issues.
He has his merits and at times he seems to generate an inordinate amount of fury from fans, but his recent record has nothing in it to suggest he would be the answer at Ibrox.
The former Birmingham City boss is said to be “hopeful” of being in with a shout despite it being unlikely that the Light Blues board would seriously consider him.

His spell at West Brom was largely put to shame by the fact that Carlos Corberan took them from facing Championship relegation to narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season when he took over.
So when Rangers are looking for a major lift after the Michael Beale era flamed out early on this term they need someone who can deliver more of what the Spaniard has provided to the Baggies, not what Bruce was producing beforehand.
There may not be an obvious, outstanding candidate currently, which is always part of the issue with having to change manager in-season, but some of the names who appear to be getting closest to the job, such as Frank Lampard, don’t scream major improvement from Beale.
In other Rangers news, the club have been told to target a manager who is currently in line to secure back-to-back promotions.
