Derek Ferguson rages after Rangers incident v Aris Limassol on BBC
Derek Ferguson was left in a rage after Rangers 2-1 defeat to Aris Limassol on Thursday 5 October, describing the opening goal as a “shambles.”
Rangers began the post-Michael Beale era at Ibrox with an embarrassing defeat in the Europa League with much of the damage coming after an incredibly slow start as the home side put the Light Blues to the sword with a number of chances in the opening minutes.
Steven Davis’ side fell behind after nine minutes when Alex Moucketou-Moussounda headed home Leo Bengtsson’s cross following a short corner routine, with the Limassol centre-back easily getting ahead of Connor Goldson to power past Jack Butland.

Ferguson speaking on BBC Sportsound (5 October 17:56) was angered, saying: “The goal is a bit of a shambles. Rangers have been so slack. It’s a short corner kick and the reaction is poor, to say the least.
“I didn’t expect this from Rangers. There’s no time to feel sorry for themselves. They’re all over the place.”
Got to be better
The opening goal against Aris was a demonstration that no matter who takes over the reins at Ibrox in the coming weeks, there is plenty of work that needs to be done to solve a number of issues that this squad have, especially in both boxes.
Goldson didn’t impose himself in the manner that Davis would have hoped to have seen from his centre-back, allowing Moucketou-Moussounda to just run beyond him without really putting up much of a fight whatsoever.

While the last weeks of Beale’s tenure at Ibrox were marred by dreadful performances and even worse results, Goldson and Ben Davies had been two of the small bright sparks as they have gone about their business well in defence, but that was by no means the case in Cyprus.
The other worry for Davis would have been how little organisation there was from his side to set up against the short corner routine. Bengtsson was afforded far too much space on the right flank to pick out Moucketou-Moussounda in what Ferguson has rightly described as a “shambles.”
In other Rangers news, there is a chance that unnamed candidates could emerge in the race to become the new manager at Ibrox
