Chris Jack shares timeline for new Rangers manager appointment, makes ‘surprised’ admission
Chris Jack is not expecting Rangers to appoint a new manager before the game against St Mirren on Sunday (8 October).
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel on Thursday (5 October), the journalist said the Gers are “happy to take their time” in appointing the successor to Michael Beale after he was sacked on Sunday (1 October).
But he added that he would be “surprised” if there’s not something “a bit more concrete” in place by this time next week after a number of managers have been linked with the job at Ibrox.
“The only word from the club last night was that they’re happy to take their time, as per usual,” said Jack. “Not expecting anything before the weekend. It will be Steve Davis and Alex Rae in the dugout for these two games.
“If we’re still sitting here this time next week and there’s not a manager, then maybe not start to worry but I think I’d be surprised if there’s not something a bit more concrete by then.”
No rush
There is no immediate rush for Rangers to get a manager in place because there is a two-week international break after the game against St Mirren.
Although the board would probably like to give whoever takes charge as much opportunity to work with the players as possible, they won’t want to make any rash decisions.
There have been several names thrown into the mix so far, with Frank Lampard appearing to be the favourite to take over at this moment in time.
But there have been questions raised over the Englishman’s suitability to take on the role given his recent experiences and Everton and Chelsea.
This is no doubt a massive appointment for the Light Blues because the new manager will have to achieve relatively quick success but also put the club in a position to challenge for silverware over a period of time.
