Rangers can advance new manager hunt soon as candidates twist emerges

Further unnamed candidates could still emerge as Rangers continue the search for their new manager, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in its print edition on Wednesday (4 October, page 66) that despite the Ibrox club already having a list of potential candidates for their vacant managerial position, there could still be a chance for unnamed candidates to enter the fray.

Micheal Beale was relieved of his duties following the Light Blues poor start to the season and there have been a variety of names already linked with the Ibrox dugout, with the upcoming international break offering a chance for the Gers to advance their process.

Discussing the current stage of the search, the newspaper reported: “Further candidates could, however, still emerge in what is a fluid situation, with the forthcoming international break offering an opportune moment to advance the process.”

The Light Blues reportedly have already made a four-man shortlist for the vacant managerial position, including Frank Lampard, Philippe Clement, Pascal Jansen and Kevin Muscat the main names [The Fourth Official, 3 October].

Opportune

It is clear that Rangers had been considering relieving Beale of his duties for a while before the actual call was made to sack the Ibrox boss and have therefore already got a rather thorough list of potential candidates who could take over the reins.

But given the high-profile nature of the vacancy and the size of the Ibrox club, there will likely be managers who may decide to register an interest now that the position is genuinely available, as opposed to when Beale was still employed in Glasgow.

Rangers have to ensure that they get this appointment right as they cannot afford to fall much further behind Celtic domestically and want to once again be competitive in the Europa League, so they cannot rush into a decision just because it can be made quickly.

Games against Aris Limassol and St Mirren allow Steven Davis to stake his claim for the position, but also present winnable matches for the Gers, regardless of who occupies their dugout. Following those fixtures, the Light Blues don’t play again until the 21 October, leaving them with ample time to complete their search for their next boss.

Given the huge turnover of the playing squad over the summer transfer window, Rangers have to ensure that they can find a manager whose style will get the best out of the players currently in place at Ibrox, otherwise the Gers will have spent a lot of money for absolutely no reason.

Hopefully, the Light Blues will use the “opportune” moment wisely and take their time to find the perfect candidate to take over at Ibrox.
