Journalist makes ‘intriguing’ admission about Kevin Muscat amid links to Rangers job
Luke Edwards believes Kevin Muscat is an “intriguing option” for Rangers after he has been linked with the top job at Ibrox.
But speaking on the BBC’s Football Gossip Daily podcast, the journalist said the Gers’ first call should be to see whether Graham Potter is interested in making the move to Glasgow.
Although Muscat, who is currently the manager of Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, is one of the favourites for the job, Edwards claims Potter is the “outstanding name” on the list for the role.

“Kevin Muscat is an intriguing option,” the journalist said. “But if I’m Rangers the first call is to see what Graham Potter is doing, whether he’s interested and whether he’d be willing to move to Glasgow.
“He is the outstanding name on that list of managers getting linked to Rangers, but I’m led to believe that he would prefer a job in the English Premier League. Muscat is the bookies’ favourite, but I think they should go see what Potter is doing.”
Statement
It would be a real statement if Rangers can persuade Potter to make the move to Ibrox because, even though he struggled at Chelsea last season, he is still an excellent coach.
The Englishman did a superb job at Brighton in paving the way for the success the Seagulls are currently having in the Premier League and he could be the man to put the Gers back on track if he is given the right tools.
He took on a very difficult job at Chelsea and matters haven’t really improved much for them since he left Stamford Bridge at the beginning of April.

Muscat certainly shouldn’t be overlooked, though, after he won the J1 League in 2022 and his Yokohama side is currently sitting two points off top spot.
The Australian would be looking to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Ange Postecoglou in the hope that he could have as much success as the former Celtic boss in Scotland if he does get the job at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, Chris Jack has raged at a “shambolic” incident that took place against Aberdeen.
