James Bisgrove stays in Glasgow in new Rangers manager update on Wednesday

Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove will not travel to Cyrpus for the game against Aris Limassol on Thursday (5 October), according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported on page 66 of its print edition on Wednesday (4 October) that he will remain in Glasgow as he continues to spearhead the search for a new Gers manager.

Steven Davis has taken charge at Ibrox on an interim basis after Michael Beale was sacked following the 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen on Saturday (30 September).

Makes sense

It makes complete sense for Bisgrove to remain in Glasgow as appointing a new manager should be the chief executive’s sole priority at this moment in time.

It is a huge decision for him to make and it’s one he absolutely has to get right after performances on the field stagnated under Beale.

There have been a number of names linked with the job, with the Light Blues’ hierarchy believed to have placed Graham Potter near the top of the list before he ruled himself out of the running.

Frank Lampard is another high-profile appointment that has been mooted, but there are question marks around whether he could take the club forward based on his recent experiences as a manager.

It won’t be an easy job for whoever does take on the role, as recording quick success while also building a squad that can continue to compete in the future is the task they will be faced with at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has named an “outstanding” candidate in the race for the Gers top job.
