Ally McCoist names manager Rangers should appoint to replace Michael Beale live on air
Ally McCoist believes Rangers should appoint Frank Lampard to replace Michael Beale as the new manager at Ibrox.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday (4 October, 08:57am), the pundit said he wouldn’t mind the former Chelsea boss taking over the Gers even though it “might not be a popular decision”.
He compared the Englishman to his compatriot Steven Gerrard after he did an excellent job with the Light Blues, adding that the 45-year-old has “a lot to prove”.

“It’s an interesting one guys,” said McCoist. “It might not be a popular decision I’m going to make, but I wouldn’t mind Frank Lampard getting it to tell you the truth.
“There’s one or two names getting thrown about. I just think I looked at the last time Steven [Gerrard] came up and was a success.
“I still see Frank in that sort of capacity, he’s a young manager with a lot to prove.”
Different situation
Although a lot of Rangers fans will take on board McCoist’s backing of Lampard due to his status at the club, many will be wary about him becoming the new manager.
Gerrard came in and did great things during his time at Ibrox, turning things around and delivering the club’s 55th league title in memorable fashion.
But it’s a different situation for Lampard, as Gerrard was new to management and didn’t have any previous failures potentially weighing him down.

That isn’t the case for his compatriot after he has largely failed in each of the jobs he has taken on, having recorded minor success at different points before they all, ultimately, ended in disappointment.
His latest spell at Chelsea will be the biggest concern for the Light Blues fans, with many of them likely to want to see the club go in a different direction on the back of Beale’s underwhelming time in the hot seat.
In other Rangers news, a journalist has named an “outstanding” candidate in the race for the Gers top job.
