Tom English slams Michael Beale after ‘weird time’ at Rangers as ‘incredible self-confidence’ claim made
Michael Beale made “no sense” as manager of Rangers, according to BBC Scotland chief sports writer Tom English.
The 43-year-old was sacked by the Gers following their 3-1 home defeat against Aberdeen on Saturday (30 September).
According to the official Rangers website (1 October), midfielder Steven Davis has taken over the role on an interim basis.

“Rangers have made many missteps since the heady days of their European run and their Scottish Cup win,” English wrote for BBC Sport.
“They dynamited their own progress. Beale made no sense – not his appointment on a paper-thin track record as a manager, not his incredible self-confidence, not his formations, not his signings.
“It’s been a weird time. In the footballing no man’s land they find themselves in, confusion reigns and nobody rules.”

No coming back
Beale was always going to be under pressure in the Ibrox dugout, not least because of the job that Steven Gerrard did before leaving.
The supporters always set the standards very high in Glasgow, meaning there is little room for error at the Scottish giants.
And unfortunately for Beale, there have been too many errors this season, beginning from the very first whistle as the Gers lost their Scottish Premiership opener to Kilmarnock.
Further misery arrived in the damaging 7-3 aggregate Champions League play-off defeat to PSV, which was immediately followed by a 1-0 home defeat to fierce rivals Celtic.
Beale was given time following those defeats, but the Aberdeen loss was one step too far for the powers that be at Ibrox.
They now have to work very hard in finding the right successor, which is going to be a difficult task, but it is at least a hugely attractive vacancy.
