Official Rangers partner reacts to Steven Davis appointment at Ibrox

Official club partner Four Lads Had a Dream shared their reaction to the announcement of Steven Davis as interim manager at Rangers on social media.

The appointment was made by the club on Sunday (1 October) after Michael Beale was sacked after Saturday’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen, as per the official Rangers website.

The Ibrox veteran midfielder will temporarily lead the Scottish outfit alongside Alex Rae, Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour and Colin Stewart.

After Rangers official Twitter account posted Davis’ first interview as manager on Monday afternoon (2 October), Four Lads shared their reaction to his appointment, tweeting:

“Do not let him down.

“Get the wins required.”

Surprising appointment

The decision to part ways with Beale comes as no surprise, with the Gers suffering a hugely disappointing 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen shortly before the decision was made.

Such results are unacceptable, particularly given how it was at Ibrox and how the Dons are struggling this season.

Rangers

Certainly, Beale went on a four-game winning streak prior to this weekend’s result but the fans and as now confirmed, the board were never convinced which ultimately cost Beale his job.

Rangers face some crucial games ahead both domestically and in Europe but to appoint a current player who has no managerial experience at such a level is surprising and could be very costly.

Celtic are already seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership and Davis’ lack of experience and pedigree could mean Brendan Rodgers’ men run away with it which leaves their next appointment in a terrible predicament with the demands at Ibrox to challenge for the league.

Some encouraging names have been thrown in the ring with AZ Alkmaar’s Pascal Jansen and Kevin Muscat but the club have already stated that they will take time over their decision, with the international break approaching.

Things look very bleak at Ibrox right now and few Rangers fans will share much optimism with their decision to appoint Davis for now, but Four Lads are right, the players must now pull their weight if results and performances are to improve.

In other Rangers news, a league-leading manager has emerged as a “live option” for the Light Blues to hire.
