Frank Lampard now wants meeting with Rangers board to replace Michael Beale

Frank Lampard wants to meet with the Rangers board to discuss becoming the club’s new manager, according to 90min.

The news outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (3 October) that the former Chelsea boss, who scored over 150 in an IQ test with Mensa, is under consideration to take over from Michael Beale at Ibrox [The Sun].

It added that Graham Potter was one of the first names the Gers’ hierarchy reached out to, but that he made it clear he wasn’t interested in taking on the role.

Unconvincing

It will have come as a blow to the Rangers board to learn that Potter isn’t interested in taking on the job as he was the standout candidate of the managers that have been linked with the club.

There isn’t much to suggest that Lampard would be able to turn things around at Ibrox and deliver success given his recent history in management.

He did a good job at Derby and did reasonably well in his first stint at Chelsea, but since then, he underwhelmed at Everton and couldn’t change the fortunes of his former side when he returned to Stamford Bridge as interim boss towards the end of last season.

It’s been a while since the Englishman had any success as a manager and, most importantly, he doesn’t have any silverware or notable achievements to his name.

He would still have a pull similar to that of former Light Blues boss Steven Gerrard, but quick results are needed and there are huge question marks around whether he could be the man to take the club forward.

In other Rangers news, Chris Jack has raged at a “shambolic” incident that took place against Aberdeen.
